There’s no denying that we’re a bit obsessed with youth and beauty. But while aging gracefully can be a real virtue, there’s nothing inherently wrong with wanting to look young and fresh, either. If you’re determined to experience a quarantine glow-up or you want to preserve what you’ve already got, consider following these five tips to look younger for longer.

Always Wear Sunscreen

Soaking up the sunshine might feel good at first, but it can take a huge toll on your skin. Sun exposure can lead to premature aging and skin damage, which can speed up the development of facial wrinkles. Of course, UV rays can also cause skin cancer. If you want to look young and preserve your life, you should wear sunscreen on a daily basis. Even if you aren’t planning on leaving the house, apply a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day. Pay close attention to your eyelids and under-eye area, as this skin is among the most sensitive to sun damage.

Drink Lots of H2O

Proper hydration is good for your body, in general, but it’s also great for your skin. When you don’t consume enough water, your skin cells will have a tougher time with turnover — and that can lead to clogged pores and an overall dull complexion. Dehydrated skin can also be more prone to itchiness, sensitivity, and wrinkles. So while applying a moisturizer and a night cream can help, you need to drink enough water to make your skin glow from the inside out.

Brighten Up Your Smile

Although 4 million Americans now wear braces, having crooked teeth isn’t the only dental issue that can make you look older than you are. Yellowed teeth can instantly add to your age. After all, how frequently do you see a teenager with a stained grin? Whether you use a whitening kit at home, forgo foods that will stain tooth enamel, or talk to your dentist about in-office treatments, making your teeth shine brighter can shave off years and make you feel more confident.

Pamper Your Hands

Your hands can give away your age if you fail to take care of them. To make sure your face isn’t the only youthful part of your body, be sure to apply hand cream regularly to keep your digits moisturized. Taking care of your fingernails can also help; while getting a professional manicure is often best, you can theoretically treat your cuticles and paint your nails at home. Don’t forget to apply SPF to your hands and exfoliate as needed. You can even remove age spots with lemon juice. It’s not a bad idea to apply a hand mask treatment, either.

Get Enough Beauty Sleep

Around 82% of Americans say that getting just one extra hour of sleep each night is somewhat or extremely valuable. Sleep deprivation, on the other hand, can spell trouble for your skin. In addition to more pronounced under-eye bags, failing to get enough sleep can inhibit collagen growth, lead to skin dehydration, and have adverse effects on skin texture and overall healing. Many people who don’t get enough sleep find that their acne, eczema, or psoriasis worsens as a result because inflammation can increase. This makes sense, as sleep allows your body the opportunity to heal. Getting a solid eight hours of sleep every night can be one of your best-kept beauty secrets.

Although it’s unfair that aging has negative connotations, the reality is that we’d all love to stay young forever. While these tips won’t keep your next birthday at bay, you can at least look healthy and glowing for many years to come.
