Break-out cult skincare brands don’t often experience the level of success that ‘The Ordinary’ has had to date.

If you haven’t already heard of or tried The Ordinary since its launch in August 2016, they offer products which have been developed with results-driven, familiar ingredients at an affordable price. In their words: “The Ordinary is “clinical formulations with integrity”. Having gained an army of fans, from beauty insiders to those who follow Deciem’s Instagram page, The brand has proven that it’s most definitely a serious player in the industry.

Here are some of our favourites:

Retinol in Squalane: Available in different strengths (0.2%, 0.5% and 1%) to allow you to build up tolerance to retinol over time. This product has a serum style texture and is a genius at revitalising skin!

The Ordinary

Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone: This product may tingle for the first few applications, as it uses 30% L-Ascorbic acid, a super pure form of vitamin C. It has been shown to brighten skin and help with fine lines.

Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution: One of the most sought after The Ordinary products, this toner brightens and smoothes with a mild AHA exfoliation.

The Ordinary

100% Cold-Pressed Virgin Marula Oil: This organic oil is a really versatile product which can be used on skin or hair. Marula Oil is packed with vitamins and antioxidants, and can really soothe skin after a strong mask has been applied.

AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution: A mask which uses chemical exfoliation to reveal bright, clear skin. This should be used once or twice a week (depending on skin sensitivity) and left on for no more than ten minutes.

Hyaluronic Acid 2% +B5: Lightweight and hydrating, this serum has a great consistency and added vitamin B5 to increase that hydration and help diminish fine lines.

Serum Foundation: Beyond skincare, this foundation has also proved very popular as a lightweight, medium coverage product available in many shades. Watch this space as we hear they intend to expand their make-up range!

As a smaller company, The Ordinary has had struggles meeting demand and waiting lists for several weeks are not uncommon. This keeps improving, with wider distribution amongst different retailers and a larger facility which has been built in Toronto, but you may want to stock up if you find a product that works for you. Apart from that, we highly recommend giving The Ordinary a chance and, as many others have found, you may even find it to be a great dupe for your usual luxury brands!
