“I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess,” says Rebel Wilson via Instagram.

The star of Senior Year publicized her relationship with girlfriend Ramona Agruma last Thursday on social media.

Who is Ramona Agruma?

The couple has been spotted together as early as January of this year. However, the announcement wasn’t the first time a photo of the two of them had been posted. Celebrating the success of her latest film, Wilson shared a photo out for dinner with Agruma in May. The couple can also be seen on Instagram attending a Los Angeles Rams game in January, as well as cozily roasting marshmallows together in April. They even attended the Vanity Fair Oscar party together in March of this year.

Although Agruma’s Instagram account only recently went public, she is a fashion and jewellery designer. She is both the founder and designer of Lemon Ve Limon, which is a sustainable clothing company that is made to be comfortable and affordable.

Her jewellery business has been around for much longer. DeLys was founded in 2013 and is a luxury jewellery company. It has been worn by many celebrities and has even appeared in major fashion magazines such as Elle and Harper’s Bazaar.

How did they meet?

A source close to Wilson spoke with People after the announcement, “It’s a very serious relationship and they’re super happy together … it’s been very cool for Rebel’s friends to see her this secure with someone.”

However, prior to the reveal Wilson spoke to People herself and explained how she met her anonymous partner. “We spoke on the phone for weeks before meeting. And that was a really good way to get to know each other.” She even disclosed that the couple’s courtship was a tad old-fashioned and extremely romantic.

There is some controversy surrounding the announcement

A tweet was shared by Twitter user Kate Doak which reads: “So apparently it wasn’t @RebelWilson’s choice to come out… The @smh/@theage have admitted to giving her a heads up 2 days in advance that they were going to “out” her. What’s worse, openly gay men at the Sydney Morning Herald were involved in this.”

To which Rebel replied with, “Thanks for your comments, it was a very hard situation but trying to handle it with grace.”

This is truly problematic. As happy as we are for Wilson and Agruma, knowing the truth about the announcement adds a layer of darkness to this otherwise exciting news. This is just a reminder that society still has some growing to do when it comes to uplifting LGBTQ+ voices and stories… even during Pride Month!
