The worldwide renowned singer Cher has declared she would be more than happy to star in the third installment of the franchise. Fans can’t be more excited and expectant about future news on the development of the film.

ABC (July 2018)

Rumours and comments have come out about an upcoming sequel of the Mamma Mia! franchise, aiming to have a trilogy of adventures of our beloved characters and plenty of ABBA songs.

“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” was a sequel and also prequel of the first movie, where we learned about the life of our characters 5 years after Sophie’s (Amanda Seyfried) wedding and also about young Donna’s (Lily James) adventures years ago when she moved to Greece and met the three possible Sophie’s dads.

Cher featured on the musical comedy sequel as Donna’s mother, Ruby, apparently, a world superstar (like Cher herself) living in New York and who lost touch with Sophie’s family. We had the pleasure of watching and listening to Cher’s interpretation of “Fernando” alongside Andy Garcia and other songs alongside the rest of the cast.

About the upcoming third film, Judy Cramer, the film and also stage producer said that at the beginning Cher was a little hesitant about appearing in the movie. “No one wants to see us old people on the screen,” Cher told her.

But Judy then said that everyone would love to see Ruby (Cher) singing alongside Donna (Meryl Streep) “Slipping Through my Fingers” and Cher immediately said, “I’m there! When do we start shooting?”.

Cramer also declared that the sequel is getting close to development and that a lot of cast members have shown their longing to star in the 3rd movie. Some of them, Julie Walters, Lily James, Colin Firth and Amanda Seyfried.

Amanda Seyfried doubted at first it would be possible to do another sequel because of the number of ABBA’s songs already used, but the truth is there are still more than 60 songs open and ready to tell us stories about new characters, new adventures or plenty of memories from the characters like we saw on the second installment.

If production starts this year, we could see the possibility of watching Mamma Mia! 3 in the late summer of 2022. Let’s stay tuned for upcoming news about the production and be ready to enjoy watching and listening to our beloved Cher and amazing cast with our favourite ABBA songs.
