Wine is typically considered one of the healthier alcoholic beverages that a person can consume. It has low calories and it doesn’t hurt, but alcohol is often seen as something that you need to cut out of your diet if you’re trying to lose weight. It leaves you wondering — how does wine affect weight loss?

Fortunately for wine lovers, it doesn’t look like you have to abstain from drinking wine altogether. The results from two separate studies over the last few years show that drinking two glasses of red wine before bed may help with weight loss. This may sound completely specific and even borderline weird, but it’s true!

These studies were performed on about 20,000 women over 13 years, ensuring that a lot of time and research went into the matter. The conclusion from the overall study was that individuals who consume two glasses of wine a day were 70 percent more likely to lose weight than those not consuming any at all. This was especially true for women who had one glass of wine at a later time of day.

The reason for this revelation comes from something known as Resveratrol— a chemical that’s commonly found in a majority of wines available to most people for purchase. It comes from plants and can help them recover from any damage. When it comes to dietary needs, however, it’s known as an appetite suppressant. It’s also known to combat an individual’s fat cells at the same time.

As mentioned before, it has typically been known as one of the healthier choices when drinking alcohol. The crushed grapes that it’s made out of has caused wine to be full of antioxidants, which have been well documented to reduce the consumer’s risk for cancers and heart disease. In addition to that, consuming wine can boost your immunity, improve cognitive function, increase bone density, lower cholesterol, promote the consumer’s life longevity, reduce your risk of stroke, and reduce your risk of Type 2 diabetes. All in all, wine seems to shape up as a better alcoholic beverage as time goes on.

Of course, like with anything else that you consume, moderation is important in order to maintain a clean bill of health. You also need to be somewhat practical about this. After all, you can’t exactly chug a couple glasses of wine late at night when you know full well that you have to get up early for work the next day.

So let’s get to the point — yes, you can have wine in moderation while trying to lose weight. Don’t forget to drink responsibly so that the rest of your life doesn’t get negatively impacted for your poor choices! After all, the end goal is to improve your health as much as possible.

However, according to the Centre of Gastrointestinal Health, you should tread carefully when drinking wine when considering your gut. This is especially true if you have Celiac disease or Crohn’s disease, which are known to be aggravated due to alcoholic substances such as wine.
