The iconic footwear brand that goes against the norm has teamed up with socio-political artist Keith Haring best known for his pop art and graffiti-like work that has deep roots in social activism. This is a first-time collaboration for the duo and they did not disappoint; the collaboration features Dr. Martens iconic silhouettes with Haring’s instantly recognizable illustrations.

We’ve seen all over DM’s social media that people love to get creative with the hashtag #DIYDocs, we see all kinds of creative new ways to cover up our docs from small drawings, painting on them or covering the whole shoe up. This collaboration gives us the opportunity to see Haring’s instantly recognizable illustrations on Dr. Marten’s 1460 and 1461 for women, men and kids.

Keith Haring’s illustrations were deep-rooted in social activism, but even if you’re not familiar with his name, you’re familiar with his colourful, cartoonish graphics. To pay tribute to his fight against convention, Dr. Marten’s first collaboration had to be with Keith Haring and add shoes and boots the things that Haring’s legendary artwork is printed on.

The 1460 boot is built from smooth leather, a classic sole and is embossed with black graphic detailing across the upper and complete with a bold Haring-esque strip of colourful figures on the heel.

Then, we have the 1461 shoe, made from smooth leather, that comes in two different designs: the first features Haring’s ‘angelic baby’ art with a simple white silhouette with red and white stitching on the upper.

The second 1461, made from smooth leather, the shoe is white and decorated with one of Haring’s staple designs in a loud, all-over print with the iconic characters people in black with blue and yellow character charms.

Finishing off the collaboration also comes in kids in 1460. Constructed from soft Hydro leather and it’s printed with his classic bat graphic and features a cartoon dog on the lace charm and an illustrated sock liner.
