After months of speculations and hints at this possibility, Kim Kardashian has officially filed for divorce from her husband of almost seven years, Kanye West.

Kim Kanye

Kim and Kanye’s wedding in 2014 came shortly after she gave birth to their firstborn, North West. Now, after having four children together, the couple is beginning the procedure to legally separate. Although the polemic TMZ broke the news on Friday, many more sources have confirmed the claim, marking the end of one of the world’s most famous couples.

Kim built a gigantic media following thanks to the reality show she and her family hosted for many years, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Many viewers across the globe watched the Kardashian family on television for many years, and thus she has become the 7th most-followed person on Instagram, with 206 million followers.

This means that her fans have seen her relationship with Kanye from its very beginning and now also have seen their marriage coming to an end. This past Friday, Kim’s petition for divorce was filed at the downtown offices of the Los Angeles County Superior Court (NBC). The divorce papers were filed by divorce attorney Laura Wasser, who worked for Angelina Jolie during her divorce and is currently representing Kim.

A source told People that Kanye believes his 2020 presidential run was “the straw that broke the camel’s back”, pushing their worn-out relationship to its end. In late 2020, Kanye frantically made shocking allegations via his Twitter account, claiming his wife and mother-in-law had been trying to get him ‘locked up’ in a mental hospital. Kim gracefully and delicately responded to this on her Instagram stories by raising awareness about bipolar disorder, which her soon-to-be ex-husband struggles with, and asking for the public’s compassion.

This most likely was not a shocking surprise to the couple’s fans, since they had already been living separately for a few months, as the TODAY Show reported. The cracks and crevices in their relationship were evident to the public after Kanye’s emotional breakdown during a speech at a campaign rally, where he revealed –besides personal details about Kim’s first pregnancy (Insider)– that he had been trying to get divorced from Kim since November 2018.
