This past year has been incredibly difficult, due to the anxieties and fears surrounding COVID-19, there have been widespread issues in regard to mental health. Recently, L’Oréal announced their partnership with Movember, which aims to put a focus on men’s mental health issues and awareness.

Movember has become a popular feature of the yearly calendar. Every year, for the month of November, millions of people take part in the challenge of growing a moustache to raise awareness for issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide. Since its inception, the movement has grown to see the support of over 6 million Mo Bros and Mo Sisters.

The overall goal of Movember is to bring greater awareness to men’s health and wellbeing with the aim of ensuring men are living healthier, happier lives. This year, L’Oréal has become involved with the movement to help ‘change the face men’s health’.

Throughout this November, L’Oréal Men Expert is shining a spotlight on men’s mental health to try and tackle the stigma surrounding male depression and suicide. This support could not come at a more important and crucial time. In a recent survey commissioned by Movember, following the difficulties many have faced surrounding COVID-19, it was found 46% of those surveyed admitted no one had checked in on them to find how they were coping.

This is so important, as a further 4 out of 5 of them confessed that they found it helpful when people ask if they are having a difficult time. That is why the Men Expert team plan to highlight and educate through their involvement with Movember. They have contributed €1.5 million euros globally to help the cause.

L’Oréal Men Expert has created a method for checking on your friends who may be having a tough time through the ALEC method.

A – Ask how your friends are doing

L – Listen to what they say

E – Encourage action and explore the options they may have

C – Check-in and keep in touch regularly

Bridging the gap and putting the ‘care’ into self-care, L’Oréal has also released the limited-edition Men Expert BarberClub Movember Foundation Kit. This kit has everything you need to groom and care for your facial hair including beard oil, styling cream and comb. The kit costs $19.99 CAD and is available online and in most drugstores from November to December. For every purchase, $1 CAD is donated to the Movember Foundation.
