Moschino steps into the sci-fi futuristic 60s mod realm in their new collection. Here’s a look into Moschino’s Pre-Fall 2022 collection.

Moschino Pre-Fall 2022 Steps Into Sci-Fi 60s Mod

Is it 60s mod? A sci-fi futuristic dystopian chic film? A psychedelic band uniform? Or maybe it’s all of the above? Jeremy Scott has yet again given us another themed collection. This time, he was heavily inspired by A Clockwork Orange, Blade Runner, and Sgt. Pepper’s.

The collection is a marriage of the 1971 film and the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club album. In an interview with WWD, Scott mentions how he wanted to take formal military codes but transform them into something more playful and surreal. From the jackets to the hats, the inspiration was very on point. The collection is very much on the nose. Maybe a little too much? He also referenced Victor Vasarely’s optical illusion prints—an inspiration that translated really well on the orange and purple pinstriped looks. Look 57 and 58 also show a resemblance to Vasarely’s Op Art artworks.

We need to talk about the accessories too. From the hats, bags and shoes, it all stood out on their own! The pointed bowler hat and stiff balaclava specifically stole the collection for me. The Moschino biker bags were present too but this time it gives a nod to the vintage Moschino heart bag—the same purse Fran Drescher wore in The Nanny (now if you think about it, Nanny Fran is definitely a Moschino girl).

Anyone who is still surprised to see a loud and obnoxious Moschino collection is simply not paying attention. Obviously, it is not new to see the brand come out with something so bold and too on the nose. Remember last season’s toddler-fied collection? If there is one thing Jeremy Scott is good at is to give us–fashion spectators–something to talk about. Whether you like it or not, he does get the buzz—positive or otherwise.

But can you blame him? When most runways are filled with the minimalist post-normcore type of clothes, something this loud can be refreshing. Say what you will but Scott deserves his flowers—preferably bright and colour-blocking like this collection. Scott is set to return to Milan to show his fall 2022 collection live on the runway.
