The Cannes Film Festival is the world’s biggest red carpet. For 75 years, the event has lined up premiers and parties that have enriched the film industry, while serving style devotees with an endless array of standout fashion.

Cannes’ dress code is famously strict and passé. This has ensured the festival’s position as the premier showcase for haute couture and decadent jewels.

In 2020 there were no premieres or parties due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its travel bans. But this year the event came roaring back, and the fashion did not disappoint.

Best Dressed

Candice Swanepoel Cannes

The former Victoria’s Secret Angel, hit the red carpet with two stunning gowns by Etro. She wore a cream-coloured and halter neck dress. She also stunned in a beaded jumpsuit with fringe sleeves. In both outfits, she looked nothing but stunning and emphasized her best features.

Bella Hadid Cannes

Bella Hadid was definitely an eye-catcher with the two gowns she wore. She first debuted on the red carpet with a custom dress made by Jean Paul Gaultier. The dress was inspired by one of the looks from the Gaultier Paris Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2000. Bella loved the original dress so much that she reached out to the atelier to ask for a replica of the dress made just for her appearance on the Cannes red carpet. She then wore a masterpiece by Schiaparelli. It was a long dress with a black wool crepe with a deep neckline adorned with a statement gold brass jewelry piece in the shape of lungs, whose bronchioles are studded with rhinestones.

The top of the dress featured an off-shoulder corset in cream and black with studs at the bust.
