Stephanie Barbosa founded Nyud in 2018. Graduating with a diploma in Fashion Business at Humber College, the course that intrigued her the most in the program was Product Development — a course where she learned the skills and tools on how to create your own designs and and bringing your brand vision to life.
After completing the program, she knew she wanted to create something of her own but didn’t know where that thought would lead her.
“I’ve always been inspired by swimwear from the 80’s era, a generation of empowered women who felt comfortable and sexy in their own skin,” She mentioned. A lot of females including the founder herself have or had struggled with body insecurities, so she wanted to create 80’s aesthetic minimal suits that could make you feel as bold and confident as the 80’s era.
Of course consumers should now be aware of what materials are being used in their clothing considering the global warming issue and pollution.
Luckily, Nyud swimwear is made from Italian lycra — material comprised of 100% post consumed recycled fibres reconstructed into something new and better. The eco-friendly material is oil resistant, fast drying, and buttery soft while maintaining it’s colour, shape and other great benefits. “We are proud of the quality we deliver in our swimwear and will make sure to have that be our first impression when someone receives their first set,” noted Stephanie.
With so many swimwear brands out there, I was curious to know what makes Nyud unique. “Our mission has always been to produce ethically made high quality swimwear. We are passionate on making women feel their absolute best and creating a new love for our bodies! Bringing back the 80s with a modern twist is our way to bloom confidence in our customers,” she mentioned. After looking through their pieces online, it’s evident that a lot of thought and planning goes into their collections — from picking out the perfect colour ways to compliment many skin tones to choosing the right cuts that hug our bodies in all the right places. “We are always working on improving and creating new pieces that will continue to showcase what we stand for,” said Stephanie.
