In recent years people have been looking for ways to help the environment by switching some of their most-used products to eco-friendly options of these. Some examples include sustainable clothing, metal straws, reusable shopping bags, and bamboo toothbrushes. Aside from these products, there’s something you else you might have not yet considered that makes a great impact on the environment: phone cases.
Every year about 1 billion phone cases are sold, most of these made out of plastic. With phone models changing so quickly and almost every year, about half of this amount is also thrown out in a year. When we throw out our used phone cases it might not be something we consider bad because it’s a product that has been thoroughly used, but it is still plastic. This is why Pela Case decided to create 100% compostable phone cases. Their phone cases are made out of Flaxstic (which is made up of compostable bioplastic elastomer and flax straw materials) and they are overall made from 45% plant-based materials. Once you’re done using your Pela phone case, you can place it in a compost bin and it will go back to nature, or you can send it back to Pela and they can recycle it to make new phone cases out of it. Their packaging is also very minimal and meant to be recycled.
On their website, you can choose from a variety of colours and styles for both Apple and Android phones. Their newest designs include printed phone cases that use UV curable GREENGUARD Gold certified ink. Aside from phone cases, you can also find Air Pods cases, smartwatch bands, and accessories like cardholders and phone grips on their website
