With the changes in COVID-19 variants in other countries, many Canadians are wanting to only travel within the country. There are a few perks to this, it is easier to navigate with COVID-19 restrictions and it stimulates the Canadian economy!

In this week’s segment, we will be focusing on Ontario. Ontario is one of the biggest travel destinations in Canada. Having the city in Canada with the largest population, Toronto, as well as the Nation’s capital, Ottawa. Ontario is an outdoor lover’s dream. Home to three CFL teams, the Toronto Argonauts, Ottawa Redblacks and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. They also happen to be home to two NHL teams as well, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators. Let us dive in and see what else Ontario has to offer!

Lake of the Woods

Lake of the Woods is home to some of North America’s most beautiful waters. Lake of the Woods is comprised of over 14,500 islands. A very popular town to visit in Lake of the Woods is Kenora, Ontario which is right on the Ontario-Manitoba border. With many different festivals, boating activities, shops, and restaurants you will get the full Lake of the Woods experience in Kenora!

Animals and Aquariums

There are lots of options for families in Ontario, especially surrounding wildlife. The Toronto Zoo is a popular spot, they house over 5,000 animals from around the world. Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory is a beautiful stop, with over 2,000 vibrant butterflies you will be left stunned. Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada in Toronto is one of the more famously known spots.

Toronto City Sites

A world-famous spot to visit in Toronto is the CN Tower. 553-meters in the sky, this Canadian icon can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. The highest viewing point is at 447-meters and on a clear day, you can see as far as Niagara Falls and New York State.

City Hall and Nathan Philips Square are beautiful during the day but the best time of day to go is at night when you can see the Toronto sign all lit up.

Yonge Dundas Square is Canada’s Times Square. The best time to go is at night when all the flashing neon signs come to life!

Ottawa City Sites

One of the biggest attractions to Ottawa is Parliament Hill. The Victorian gothic look to the Parliament Buildings is quite beautiful. A big attraction in the summer is the changing of the guard ceremony that happens every morning at 9:50 AM. They always have a regimental band and pipers during this time.

Ontario is a beautiful province with an abundance of activities. Be prepared to walk!
