Winter can be seen as the downside and the upside to living in Canada. While the cold and snow can drag on, the beautiful fluffy white snow coating some of Canada’s most beautiful destinations can make for a fairy-tale-like setting. Here are a few of the places you may want to consider for a winter wonderland trip in Canada.

Whistler

An already famous spot made even more famous after the 2011 Olympics, Whistler is a great spot for lovers of the outdoors. The town of Whistler is like staying in a never-ending festival throughout the winter. With famous and epic skin runs to choose from, Whistler also offers a bobsled track, luge runs, dog sled rides, and ice-climbing. Whistler is someone where you will never be bored and will be surrounded by gorgeous mountain views.

Banff

Banff is one of the best places to visit during a Canadian winter. The Canadian Rockies coated in white snow is one of the most breathtaking sites you will ever see, a beautiful winter wonderland. The town looks like it was taken right out of a small European ski town, with small boutiques and restaurants. You can take guided hikes through the mountains and on ice walks or take the gondola up the mountain at night and watch the stars glimmer in the sky.

Lake Louise

Located in Banff National Park Lake Louise transforms into a beautiful winter wonderland, with a beautiful lake skating rink with a mountain backdrop. Stay at the Lake Louise Chateau and experience stunning winter views from your room. In January, Lake Louise hosts an Ice Sculpture Festival which is a delightful event that you will remember for years to come.

Churchill

A small town located in Manitoba; Churchill is famously known as the “Polar Bear Capital of The World”.  Located on the Hudson Bay, Churchill is home to polar bears, beluga whales and a variety of different birds. Go on a Tundra Buggy tour where you can safely experience the wildlife Churchill has to offer. Churchill is also a great spot to view the beautiful green dancing sky, also known as the Aurora Borealis.

Niagara Falls

If you have visited Niagara Falls in the summer, you know how beautiful it is. Well, wait until you see Niagara Falls in the winter. Take a walk along the pathway by the side of the falls and enjoy the mighty falls glittering in white snow. It is also common to see ice formations in and around the falls and the cliffs.
