The Songwriter Halsey and guitarist  Lindsay Buckingham reunited to play the track they recorded ‘’If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power.”

Hollywood Life

Halsey was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this week, performing “I Am Not a Woman, I’m a God” and “Darling” from their recent album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power. Lindsey Buckingham joined Halsey on guitar for the latter song. (Buckingham also appears on the album version of the track). The sci-fi aesthetic of Halsey’s “I Am Not a Woman, I’m a God” performance was thanks to French filmmaker Michel Gondry, who served as creative director for the segment. The last episode was hosted by Kim Kardashian West.

The song is one of the quieter moments from the album, which is a somewhat raucous document of Halsey’s transition to motherhood. The rest of the Nine Inch Nails-produced record offers an appropriately abrasive soundtrack to some probing questions from the songwriter regarding institutionalized misogyny and parenthood, and also features Dave Grohl.

Pop Culture

After issuing her fourth record If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power in August, Halsey released an hour-long visual counterpart directed by Colin Tilley.

Halsey has frequented SNL the past few years. She pulled double duty as host and musical guest back in 2019, becoming the 38th entertainer to handle both roles. The singer made their SNL debut in 2018 performing the single “Bad At Love” from her sophomore album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. Then, G-Eazy joined them onstage for “Him & I” from the rapper’s fifth studio album The Beautiful & The Damned.
