Everyone mistakes from time to time, even doctors. However, when a medical professional makes a mistake, it is the patient who suffers. There are thousands of medical negligence claims against the NHS every year in the UK.

Medical negligence is when a medical professional provides substandard care to a patient, causing their condition to worsen. In some cases, the medical professional purposefully made a mistake, while it was an accident in others.

If you have experienced medical negligence, you should get in touch with a solicitor for advice. They can assess whether you should file a claim against the medical professional in question.

Many celebrities have been subject to medical negligence over the years. Let’s take a closer look at some of the celebrities who have suffered due to medical negligence.

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson was one of the biggest celebrities in history. The doctor prescribed him some very powerful painkillers just hours before Jackson’s death. Doctor Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after neglecting his celebrity patient. He was sentenced to four years in prison. He served less than two years of his sentence.

Leslie Ash

At the peak of her career, Leslie Ash reportedly fell off her while having intercourse with her husband, Lee Chapman. She had two cracked ribs and a punctured lung from the injury. After being admitted into the hospital, she contracted MRSA and was temporarily paralysed from the waist down. She received a £5 million pay-out.

Joan Rivers

Joan Rivers had a routine throat procedure that led to a medically induced coma. She was sedated for the throat surgery with Propofol – the same anaesthetic used on Michael Jackson. However, she was not weighed before the procedure, and the incorrect dosage of Propofol was administered. Joan had a heart attack and was put on life support after the surgery. She died shortly after.

Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue was initially given the all-clear from cancer. But halfway through her 57 concert tour, Kylie found that she was misdiagnosed and did have breast cancer after all. She had surgery within four days of the diagnosis and quickly started chemotherapy. She has been cancer-free for fifteen years now.

Medical negligence can have catastrophic consequences for the patient. In severe cases, the patient can die from a medical mistake. Look into filing a claim if you have experienced medical negligence.
