Deepfake Eyes are distorted in photos and videos versus non-distortion in humans, researchers say.
July 21, 2024 – Deepfake videos and photos are created by technology, for the sole purpose of imitating a person. It can cause confusion and even skepticism. A.I. (artificial intelligence) can replicate your movement, face, mouth, voice, and eyes.
However, right now there are some ways we can distinguish the fake vs reality. If one wants to spot a deepfake, just look at the stars in the eyes. The balanced light reflection in human eyes is missing in the deepfake version.
The reflections in human eyes are identical whereas in the deepfakes they are inconsistent. Astronomers used a ‘Light Research’ that they used to study the galaxy and discovered a similarity in deepfakes. Deepfakes have limited light in the eyes versus a real person’s photo, according to Royal Astronomical Society.
However, the danger is, over time A.I. will become more advanced and will be able to construct a more similar pattern to human eyes.
What Are The Harmful Effects Of Deepfakes
The A.I. can trick or confuse people by convincingly impersonating someone’s looks, movements, and voice.
This could result in identity theft, financial scams, threats to privacy, or political embarrassment or downfall.
For instance, the growing use of celebrity likenesses to promote an agenda or an idea is alarming. Writers have been grossly affected as well. This resulted in Hollywood shutting down last year when a dual strike involving writers and actors joined forces to protest about the use of their writings and images without their permission.
Is Celebrity Deepfake Safe
Actress Scarlett Johansson recently made international headlines when she discovered that her voice and body had been deepfaked. She made it publicly known that she was concerned about the harmful effects this could have on any actor or actress in the entertainment industry.
Many celebrities and politicians are currently being affected by AI. This is not only limited to high-profile people. Regular citizens have also been targeted for phishing scams and identity theft.
