HOLR is chatting with Love Island’s Gemma Owen to learn all about her new collection with PrettyLittleThing out TODAY!

As a result, the star has had full creative control throughout the design process, working closely with PLT’s in-house design team to help bring her vision to life. Talk to us about your new collection with PrettyLittleThing (PLT)- what can we expect when shopping the line?

Gemma: This collection is really true to me and my style so there are a lot of timeless classics in there. I absolutely loved every single minute of it! Working really closely with Chris (Christopher Parnell, Head of Design, PrettyLittleThing), and having more of an input in the design process, thinking of inspiration boards, thinking of the colour palettes- I’ve just really enjoyed working on this. With Chris’ help, he’s also shown me what the PLT customer would also like. It’s been the best of both worlds, and we’ve hopefully got a collection that everyone’s going to love.

Tell us about the design process and how involved you were in creating each piece.

Gemma: The design process started in September of last year so I’ve been working on it for quite a while. I sort of find any inspiration on runways or use colours that I like. With Chris, we would work on things and make little slight tweaks, but together we would come up with the collection.

Chris: From an inspiration point of view, Gemma would come in with her ideas and what she expected them to look like, and we would take into account things like the time of year that we were launching. There are loads of other factors that go into it. The main big factor too is that it’s got to be true to Gemma’s aesthetic. We have a neutral palette but we’ve introduced a new print to elevate it a bit and make it more exciting for the customer. All the collection is coming out along the way this year where we’ll introduce more colour, and things like that. It’s kind of an evolution of the collection this year but this is really the starting point.

Where did your inspiration come from for this collection?

Gemma: My inspiration has come from a few different places. The print had come to me from when I wore a Mugler dress a few months back to an event. That’s where the inspiration for the print has come from. We’ve sort of tweaked it and added a bit of colour to make it a bit different. The collection is quite neutrals and earthy tones, which I love, but we’ve put a bit of colour in which hopefully everyone will love. We just picked bits of inspiration from everywhere.

What do you love most about collaborating with PLT?

Gemma: This time, being more involved with the whole process and working really closely with the whole team. The team is just amazing. They really listened to my ideas and helped me. Everyone is so lovely, genuine, and really talented. Going to all these shoots and seeing what goes on behind the scenes, seeing what everyone does and the roles they play is really inspiring. It’s quite eye-opening, really. The team is so talented and I’m so lucky to be able to work with a team like theirs.

What are some of your favourite products from the latest line?

Gemma: I’ve got three! I can’t really pick one but my three favourites are the grey jumpsuit with the blazer- I think that’s stunning! Or the knit co-ords, I think they’re gorgeous as well. And then the cropped sweater set in a nude-y colour- that’s really gorgeous as well, and it’s something you can dress up or down. It’s made of recycled fabric which is important but yeah, I would say that those are my three favourites from the collection!

What’s your go-to look from the collection?

Gemma: I’m probably going to have to say the sweater set! We’re still in that time of year when it’s a little bit cold and the weather is not great. I feel like you can wear that day and night and still look good- you can wear it with trainers or with heels and you can get by. That’s just the go-to. If you’re going to get anything, that’s just the set to get.

When can we shop this new collection?

Gemma: The new collection just dropped and is available now, which is super exciting. It’s such a rewarding process, seeing it go from the designs to seeing it in the sample stages, and going to shoot it, then seeing it on the website. I think it’s just really rewarding.
