‘Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning’: Tom Cruise’s Last Mission?
February 10, 2025 – A new trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning hit the Super Bowl and have many wondering: will this be Tom Cruise’s last mission?
With Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise will have played the famed IMF Agent Ethan Hunt for eight movies. This Super Bowl another teaser trailer dropped for the next sequel in the action franchise, raising more and more questions. Everything from the movie title – The ‘Final’ Reckoning – and the teaser trailers have fans wondering if this will be Cruise’s final installment in the movie franchise.
“Everything you’ve done . . . has come to this,” the trailer’s narrator says.
“I need you to trust me, one last time,” Cruise pleads intently as the trailer cuts off.
Though these apparent ‘hints’ might point to Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning indeed being Cruise’s last time as Ethan Hunt, the actor has been unable to say much on the matter. When Empire questioned him about this, the actor said, “You gotta see the movie.”
“It’s a hard thing for me to discuss at the moment because it really is something that you have to experience,” Cruise explains. He promises the movie will be “Homeric” and “an epic, emotional journey of the entire franchise.”
Tom Cruise Passes Out During Filming
Always true to character, Tom Cruise has once again insisted on doing his own stunts for Mission: Impossible. He spoke to Empire about the challenges he faced during filming a scene where he hung from the wing of a 1930s Boeing Stearman biplane 10,000 feet in the air: “When you stick your face out, going over 120 to 130 miles an hour, you’re not getting oxygen,” he tells them. “So I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically; I was unable to get back into the cockpit.”
Director Christopher McQuarrie tells Empire that there is another secret stunt, even more death-defying: “I truly want to puke thinking about the stress.”
The details around this stunt remain a mystery, but one thing is certain: fans will have a lot to look forward to.
Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning arrives in cinemas on May 23, 2025.
