He used all sorts of tricks to appropriate a large amount of wealth in the hope of conquering beauty and entering the glitzy elite. Gatsby thought he would have it all: money, power and wealth, and passionate love for a beautiful woman. But then that illusion of love was painfully broken, followed by a sad ending for him.
Jay Gatsby is a vague and mysterious figure, symbolizing the hope of rising to embrace the American dream, thereby criticizing class divisions and the decadent lifestyles of the deep-rooted elites. The part about the character of Gatsby that Leonardo describes is extremely elegant and attractive. Still, Gatsby has always carried an extremely mysterious secret that makes readers curious and doubtful.
