After The Death Of Tyre Nichols, Memphis Police Are To Release Law Enforcement Bodycam Footage Of The Night

Since the death of Tyre Nichols (29), Memphis Police are set to release the bodycam footage of the night of his passing. According to MPD Officials, the video will be released to show everyone how the officers showed  “a disregard for human rights” that night.

With all the press on Tyre Nichols and with this footage to be released, it is important to note that Tyre Nichols was not just a man who was a victim of an inhumane act. He was a father with a loving group of family and friends. Described by family, he was a “beautiful soul”, a soul that’ll be missed and deserves justice.

Who Was Tyre Nichols?

Tyre Nichols was a 29-year-old man from Memphis, Tennessee. He was a father to a little boy, and according to his family, he loved being a father and loved his son. As stated by his attorney at the family news conference, “Everything he was trying to do was to better himself as a father for his 4-year-old son.” 

At the family news conference, the mother of Tyre Nichols-RowVaughn Wells, says that Tyre was a family man. Wells states that her son worked at FedEx, and on his breaks, he would stop by his mother’s house to have his lunch break. At the beginning of 2020, once the pandemic hit, he got stuck in Memphis when things started to shut down, “But he was OK with it because he loved his mother,” his mother said.

According to the family, Nichols loved to get Starbucks with friends and loved to skate. He would spend mornings getting together with friends, phones turned off, just being present and enjoying each other’s company. A good friend of Nichols, Nate Spates Jr., spoke at the conference sharing his favourite memory with Tyre. His favourite memory was meeting up and introducing Nichols to his wife and 3-year-old at their usual Starbucks. As reported on CNN News, Spates Jr. watched Nichols play with his 3-year-old and talked to his wife with kindness. 

“When we left, my wife said, ‘I just really like his soul. He’s got such a good spirit,” Spates states. “To speak about someone’s soul is very deep,” he said. “I’ll never forget when she said that. I’ll always remember that about him.”

When it came down to his passion for skateboarding, you could find him at Shelby Farms Park, in which he has done since he was 6 years old. 

According to his family, he would wake up on Saturday mornings and head to the park to skate or take off to go snap some pictures of the sunset. “My son every night wanted to go and look at the sunset, that was his passion,” Wells states. It was revealed at this conference that Nichols had a strong passion for photography as well. He had a photography website called, T. Nichols Photography.

This website shows Nichols’s portfolio of all different types of art and photography. On the starting screen of the website, there is an ‘about me’ section.

In this paragraph, Tyre Nichols states, “My vision is to bring my viewers deep into what I am seeing through my eye and out through my lens.” He goes on to say, “People have a story to tell why not capture it instead of doing the “norm” and writing it down or speaking it. I hope to one day let people see what I see and to hopefully admire my work based on the quality and ideals of my work.”
