The Mission: Impossible star is said to be “over the moon” to have received a producer nomination from both the Producers Guild and the Oscars, according to a source exclusively quoted in the newest issue of Us Weekly.

During the 2023 Producers Guild of America Awards, the action star just accepted the David O. Selznick Achievement Award, which honours a producer for their “extraordinary body of work in motion pictures”. Though Tom Cruise has a long and successful career in Hollywood, the recognition during the awards season for Top Gun: Maverick is a record milestone.

“Filmmaking for Tom these days is all about creating the whole package and making it work and make money, as opposed to having that one scene in the film where he cries or yells and generates the perfect ‘Oscars clip,’” the source adds.

“Tom has grown out of caring about that stuff, and in the process has grown into an absolutely killer businessman and producer — and that’s the real thing he’s intent on celebrating this awards season.”

On February 25, the actor honored his fellow filmmakers and expressed his support for them as he accepted the Producers Guild award. “I know that things don’t just happen. I know it’s not just luck. You have to create that luck,” Cruise stated to the audience.

“You have to will it into existence. I want you to know that I’m always rooting for you. I’m rooting for all of you. The better every studio does, the better every film does, the better we all do and the better it is for everyone. I look forward to seeing what you create in the future, and I’ll continue to do all I can to contribute and help this industry and this art form that I love.”

Tom received an Oscar nomination in January for his work as a producer on the May 2022 release of Top Gun: Maverick. He had previously received nods for Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia, but he has never won an acting award.

Top Gun: Maverick, on the other hand, might be the film that alters his fortune at the Academy Awards. Also up for awards are Best Original Songs, Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, and Best Visual Effects for the movie.
