Back to Earth Skin, a Canadian skincare brand, has set a new standard for natural skin care with its latest line of products, GLOW.

The 100% natural line includes eight products powered by the proprietary Mineral Microbiome Clay Complex™, which is enriched with minerals essential to skin health. Back to Earth Skin is committed to providing clean skincare that can be trusted to deliver healthy and beautiful skin without compromise. The brand’s founder, Kiley Routely, emphasizes the importance of sustainable packaging, and the products are all vegan, cruelty-free, and 35-free. We spoke with founder Kiley Routely to learn more about the products ahead of the launch.

What inspired you to start this brand?

As a mother of three, I formulated these recipes and ideas for Back to Earth Skin over five years ago, to ensure a better and cleaner future for my children. Having completed a number of Certified Herbalist and Aromatherapy educational programs, I’ve spent years on product development and was fascinated with natural ingredients and combination blends that provide optimal results and benefits for the skin. After all, the best results come from nature itself!

What was the first product you created?

I started with a natural cold-pressed bar soap free from fragrances, chemical foaming agents, colourants and harsh chemicals. From there, I continued to experiment and formulate what is now known as Back to Earth Skin and, most recently, the new GLOW™ line, including a moisturizer, serum, facial scrub, cleanser, make-up remover, eye cream, facial mist, and facial mask.

What are the hero ingredients in your product that help to deliver results?

Back to Earth Skin uses our proprietary ingredient,  Mineral Microbiome Clay™ (MMC™), which has an abundant source of minerals essential to skin health, including iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, potassium and zinc. What sets us apart and allows our products to work so well,  is this unique blend of MMC™ with curated natural ingredients such as Grapefruit, Green Tea, Spearmint etc., with pure essential oils to form our MMC Complex™. 

What are some of the benefits of using a natural skincare line? 

For Back to Earth Skin, we’ve created a 100% natural skincare line. There are natural brands out there, however, they are not 100% natural and often use non-natural fillers. The benefit of being 100% natural is that we can be completely transparent and honest about what is in each product and what the function is of the product. Since our skin is our largest organ and absorbs everything into our bloodstream, it is imperative for our health that we know exactly what we are putting on our bodies.

And why are natural ingredients just as effective (if not more effective) than other ingredients used by some of the big skincare companies?

In many cases, natural ingredients are more effective than chemically compounded ingredients. Many of these natural ingredients are derived directly from plants with natural medicinal properties, from anti-inflammation to hydration. Additionally, our proprietary ingredient, MMC Complex™ is rich in many minerals our bodies need, such as calcium, iron, zinc, manganese,  potassium and magnesium, so essentially, we’re replenishing our bodies. 

What is a common piece of positive feedback that you receive about the products from customers?

We are often told how people’s skin health has improved after using our products – these ingredients target to help irritated skin, sensitive skin, redness and more. As a result, it has changed their lives and allowed them to live more confidently.  We also often receive accolades for what our brand stands for in all we do, from sourcing our sourcing of ingredients to our formulations and our packaging and sustainability efforts.
