The first photos of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba from Wicked have been revealed today. Before the movie’s 2024 premiere, check out the actresses dressed in their costumes.

Two images were posted to the movie’s official Instagram account: one showed Ariana wearing a pink gown as she walked a wooden stairway, and the other showed Cynthia holding a broomstick while sporting a black witch hat and a dress that matched it.
The same day, director Jon M. Chu posted those same photos on his Instagram account along with a statement, “You weren’t told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road? FIRST LOOK of the #WickedMovie … currently in production in Oz.”

On March 14, Jon tweeted, “We are deep into production on WICKED and everyday we get more and more excited to share with u the mischief we’ve been up to. So…We’ve decided to get it to you all a little earlier than planned. OUR NEW RELEASE Date is NOV 27th 2024! A little Thanksgiving treat!”
The Tony-winning Broadway musical’s movie adaptation, which is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, was initially revealed by Universal back in 2016.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were chosen to play the starring roles in November 2021. Jeff Goldblum teased that Grande and Erivo are “very good” in their roles during a March 2023 visit on Jimmy Kimmel Live, confirming his part as the Wizard.
