Bella Hadid is “shocked,” “upset,” and “disappointed” in the insensitivity of the Adidas campaign that she was featured in.

July 30, 2024- Model Bella Hadid has officially released a statement after appearing in a controversial Adidas campaign that unintentionally referenced a terrorist attack.

The ad, released in early July, promoted Adidas’ new SL72 sneakers which were inspired by the 1972 Munich Olympics.

However, the 1972 Munich Games is mostly known for the tragic attack by the Palestinian group, “Black September,” on the Israeli Olympic team.

According to Britannica, 11 Israeli athletes and coaches were murdered during the attack.

The Adidas ad featured Hadid holding flowers while wearing the sneakers, which debuted during the Munich Games.

Hadid took to her Instagram story to explain her side of things.

“For those of you that do not know my heart, I want to make sure you’re hearing directly from me about my recent campaign with Adidas. I would never knowingly engage with any art or work that is linked to a horrific tragedy of any kind,” Hadid said.

Hadid explained how she had no knowledge of the historical connection to the events in 1972 prior to the campaign’s release.

“I am shocked, I am upset, and I am disappointed in the lack of sensitivity that went into this campaign,” Hadid said. “Had I been made aware, from the bottom of my heart, I would never have participated.”

Hadid addressed how her team, Adidas, and herself should have done more research so that this could’ve been avoided.

“I do not believe in hate in any form, including antisemitism. That will never waiver, and I stand by that statement to the fullest extent,” Hadid said.

“I am a proud Palestinian woman and there is so much more to our culture than the things that have been equated over the past week,” Hadid continued.
