Sara Ramirez is perhaps most famous for their former role as Dr. Callie Torres on Grey’s Anatomy, the longest-running LGBTQ character in television history. To their fans’ joy, Ramirez has recently been confirmed as a series regular in the Sex and the City Revival “And Just Like That”. They will play the role of Che Diaz (they/them) a non-binary queer person who hosts a podcast featuring Carrie Bradshaw on a regular basis.

The character Che has been described as “a big presence with a big heart”, and the show’s executive producer Michael Patrick King expressed his excitement for Ramirez joining the cast. King stated, “Sara is a one-of-a-kind talent, equally at home with comedy and drama – and we feel excited and inspired to create this new character for the show.”

Ramírez’s acting talent has been widely recognized, them having received a Tony Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, as well as several other nominations. They have a range of acting experience having taken on voice acting roles for Queen Miranda on Disney’s animated series Sofia the First and Mamá Calaca in Vampirina, along with having played Kat Sandoval on Madam Secretary as a series regular. They have also executive produced three different films, showing that their cinematic talent goes beyond acting.

Ramirez came out as non-binary in 2020 in an Instagram post where they wrote “In me is the capacity to be Girlish boy Boyish girl Boyish boy Girlish girl All Neither” including the hashtag “#nonbinary”. They also updated their social media bios to include the description “non-binary human.” Their bio also declares that they use “she/they” pronouns. Ramirez is a passionate activist and a champion for LGBTQ rights. They have been the recipient of the Ally For Equality Award by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, and are constantly speaking up about important issues in order to create awareness and spaces for conversation. This role has the potential to increase the platform for non-binary people by further bringing their representation to the mainstream, as Che will join the limited number of famous non-binary characters in television.

HBO first announced the Sex and the City reboot in January of this year, and will consist of 10 episodes, half an hour each, and will be shot in New York City.  And Just Like That will revolve around the characters Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon reprising their original roles. It was also recently announced that Chris Noth will be returning to play the role of Mr. Big
