Super Bowl Chiefs Las Vegas

Super Bowl Sunday saw not only the second consecutive victory for the Kansas City Chiefs and incredible musical performances but also the premiere of top-notch commercials. One such commercial has taken the internet by storm: the first official teaser of the upcoming film, Wicked: Part One.

The film stars Ariana Grande as Glinda, and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. The latter’s character is more well-known to fans as The Wicked Witch of the West from the classic film The Wizard of Oz.

The film, produced by Universal Studios and directed by Jon M. Chu, is the first installment of a two-part adaptation of the beloved 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Alongside Grande and Erivo, the cast of the highly anticipated film includes Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, and Ethan Slater. Goldblum plays the infamous Wizard of Oz, known to fans of the classic film starring Judy Garland, while Yeoh and Slater play characters from the hit Broadway musical.

The teaser introduces viewers to the glittering world of Jon Chu’s Wicked: Part One, showing both Glinda and Elphaba arriving at a grand palace, possibly the boarding school in the city of Shiz, as per Maguire’s novel. Continuing, the teaser shows the two main characters interacting with each other and the characters portrayed by Yeoh, and Jonathan Bailey of Bridgerton fame.

“Don’t be afraid,” Glinda, played by Ariana Grande says to someone offscreen.

“I’m not afraid,” Elphaba seems to answer. “It’s The Wizard who should be afraid of me.”

As Jon Chu explained at last year’s CinemaCon event, per a related article, the film is “about change and [how] it’s necessary for things to get better.”
