Mike Wheeler Actor Hopes to Reprise Role in Potential Revival After Final Run
The “End” May Not Be the End
November 18, 2025: As the release date for the much-anticipated final season of Netflix’s hit series, Stranger Things, draws near, star Finn Wolfhard has offered a glimmer of hope to fans struggling with the show’s conclusion. In a new interview with Variety ahead of Season 5’s multi-part premiere (which begins November 21st), Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, suggested that while the main story is wrapping up, the world of Hawkins may not be closed forever.
The actor, who has played Mike since he was 13, admitted that he doesn’t believe he will “ever truly feel like it’s the end.”
“I think it’s good that it’s the end, but part of me hopes it’s not,” Wolfhard confessed. “The show will live on in so many ways that I hope it still feels relevant to people years down the line.”
A Decades-Long Connection to the Duffer Brothers
Wolfhard’s comments hint at the possibility of a future revival, stressing that the ultimate decision rests with the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer.
“There’s a reason why we ended it, and it’s done,” he noted. “But who’s to say that [the Duffer Brothers], in 10 years, when they get another idea, they do it? It’s up to them.”
This sentiment echoes the deep emotional connection the core cast has to the decade-long project. Wolfhard has previously spoken about the overwhelming emotion of reading the final script and the “melancholy” feeling surrounding the show’s farewell.
The Upside Down Universe Continues
Even as the main series wraps its final run, the Stranger Things universe is already expanding. Netflix has confirmed an upcoming animated spin-off, Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85, and a stage play titled The First Shadow is currently running on the West End and Broadway, exploring the origins of Vecna.
However, the Duffer Brothers have been adamant that any future live-action spin-offs would not involve the main cast, leaving the idea of a future “Mike and Eleven” reunion solely in the hands of time—and creative inspiration.
The first part of Stranger Things Season 5 premieres this Thursday, November 27th.
