Avatar movies release dates

Avatar 3, 4, and 5  released dates will be pushed back. “Avatar 3” is currently set to be premiered on December 19th, 2025, “Avatar 4” on Dec. 21, 2029, and “Avatar 5” on Dec. 19, 2031. The reason for the delay is due to Disney’s shifted schedule. Disney announced Tuesday that some big productions will be delayed such as Marvel’s, “Avengers: Kang Dynasty” which was postponed from May 2025 to May 2026.

This doesn’t come as a surprise as Avatar: The Way of Water came out 13 years after the original Avatar. Disney’s original plan was to release the third, fourth, and fifth Avatar movies two years apart from each other. Zoe Saldaña who plays Avatar Neytiri reacts on her Instagram story saying, “Great! I’m gonna be 53 when the last ‘Avatar’ comes out,” She further adds, I was 27 when I shot the very first ‘Avatar.’”

With changes in release dates, it looks like there will also be a potential change in directors as James Cameron told Collider in December that he might be open to giving up his role.  “I think there are a lot of good filmmakers out there and a lot of good filmmakers that understand how to do CG and animation and world-building and all that sort of thing. I think that what I would look for is somebody that is willing to be humble before the specific craft of how you make one of these films,” said Cameron.
