Amongst all the uncertain times we face, many events have been cancelled or postponed. Instead of cancelling their annual Walk It Out Fashion Show event, the upcoming graduate students of the Humber College Fashion Arts and Business diploma program showed remarkable resilience and agility. They managed to pivot and still let the show go on “virtually.” What they created instead, is not just a digital fashion show, but a digital fashion week.
The theme for this year’s show was “The Powerhouse,” presenting a fashion week on Power-dressing and how the clothing you wear can make you feel strong and confident. Under the guidance of their Program Coordinator and Professor Jennifer Dawson, the Fashion students assembled social media platforms where they would be posting the event content. Starting April 7th to the 14th, on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, they provided their viewers a week of fashion-related content, from designer collections to behind the scenes footage.

From their homes, the Powerhouse team came together to recreate an event that was attainable for all. They were determined to keep the fashion community united and strong through these times and bring back some much-needed excitement. With hard work, they were able to accommodate the event to an online environment and bring everyone together to celebrate what they love most: fashion.
Jennifer Dawson commented: “I think our students can be seen as leaders in digital event production with their new innovative ideas to engage our fashion community. Our students have been incredibly forward-thinking and have remained motivated throughout.”
