Idina Menzel stars in the new musical “Redwood”

June 14, 2024– “Queen of Broadway” Idina Menzel is returning to the Broadway stage in the new musical “Redwood” in 2025.

The new musical follows Jesse, played by Menzel, a successful businesswoman whose broken heart leads her on a journey to Northern Cali’s redwood forests.

Audiences will have the chance to watch Jesse’s transformative journey and how she discovers community, connection, and healing.

Critically acclaimed writer and director, Tina Landau, brings this story to life with composer Kate Diaz, who created the musical’s score.

In an Instagram post, Menzel said “I’m so excited to share it with you. It’s something very special to me, and I’ve been working on it for a long time. I just can’t wait for you to see it!”

The musical is set to hit next year’s Broadway season.

Menzel, 53, first gained popularity when she was cast as the first Elphaba in the original Broadway production of “Wicked”.

The musical won three Tony Awards and seven Drama Desk Awards and has been seen by over 39 million around the world.

Menzel then went on to achieve mainstream success across stage, screen and music, and is considered one of the most influential stage actors of her generation.

Menzel additionally starred in Disney’s 2013 film “Frozen” as Princess Elsa, who sang the hit song “Let It Go”.

The song sold 10.9 million copies in a year and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
