Is Chipotle Closing? Customers Panic Over Bankruptcy Rumors
March 26, 2025 – Customers were shocked when rumors about Chipotle closing began spreading across the internet.
Have we eaten our last Chipotle bowl?
Food-lovers were stunned after media reports suggested the Mexican-infused fast-food chain was closing. These rumors stemmed from a news report in Madrid titled: “Say goodbye to this popular US fast food chain – all restaurants will close due to bankruptcy”
This news quickly gained traction online, as social media users with large followings shared the information rapidly, sending Chipotle-lovers into a frenzy.
But was there really any reason to panic?
Chipotle Bankruptcy Rumors True?
After the rumors about Chipotle closing started getting out of hand, the restaurant-chain reached out to clear up the confusion. They told PIX11 News that “The false information stemmed from an inaccurate online article confusing Chipotle with a venture it tested in 2023. The story has since been corrected.”
Apparently, the original article claiming the fast-food chain was closing had confused the restaurant with Farmesa Fresh, which is a Chipotle-invested business venture. Farmesa Fresh opened in 2023 and functioned with a ghost kitchen model, providing healthy dishes with high-quality proteins. Unfortunately, the new chain never achieved much popularity, and it was recently permanently closed.
With the confusion cleared, customers won’t have to worry about missing out on their bowls, tacos, and burritos anymore. In fact, it seems Chipotle is doing better than ever.
300 New Mexican-Infused Restaurants
After a successful 2024, Chipotle’s total revenue increased 13.1% to $2.8 billion. In their company report, CEO Scott Boatwright reported they “had another outstanding year, delivering strong transaction driven comps each quarter, expanding margins, adding over 300 new restaurants, gaining momentum in key industry leading brand metrics, making progress on many restaurant operating initiatives and building our footprint internationally.”
They plan on expanding even further, “making progress toward becoming a global iconic brand.”
So, no, we definitely have not eaten our last Chipotle bowl. Instead, we might be eating a lot more in the future.
