I recently had an amazing experience at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and Castaway Cay, two unforgettable stops on my Disney Cruise vacation.
Now at the age of 14, this was my third Disney vacation but my first time cruising with Disney. It was everything I hoped for and more. Join me on my journey as I dock at two amazing Disney Private Islands on my four-day Disney Cruise.
Day 1: Exploring Lookout Cay
It seemed as though you were in a tropical community at Lookout Cay. It was simply ideal; the sun was shining and the temperature was high. The water was incredibly blue and radiant, and the waves added to the fun, it felt almost dreamlike.
There’s lots of space on the island, and it never felt congested. In addition to the beach, there were awesome nature paths. The buffet was amazing and the meal selection had so much variety. Fresh fruit, chicken, vegetables, burgers, fries, ribs, and so much more…everything I tried tasted fantastic!
The parade on the island, RUSH! A Junkanoo Celebration, was one of the highlights. The performers were dressed in vibrant colors, and everyone joined in singing and dancing as the music played. The band was a local Bahamian Junkanoo group, and they played lively music using instruments like bongos, trumpets, and tambourines. It added so much energy and culture to the experience.
I loved the items in the souvenir stores with so many great options to choose from, I picked out a few favorites to take home. I also loved the smoothie bar called Sandsational Smoothies with all the refreshing drinks that were perfect to go along with the day in the sun. The mango float was my favourite, I watched it being freshly squeezed – it was sensational!!
Day 2: Pirate Vibes at Castaway Cay
The moment we stepped off the ship, Castaway Cay gave major pirate island energy. There were “stay away” signs and tropical music that made it feel like a fun adventure right out of a movie.
Castaway Cay has three beaches, one of which is reserved for adults. The two beaches I visited were perfect for relaxing with lots of lounge chairs and areas to unwind on the beach.
The water was incredibly clear and calm. I absolutely loved snorkelling. There are a lot of fascinating fish to observe! I even picked up a very big starfish, it was stunning.
Of course the food was great. The fruit was fresh and delicious, and they also had so much variety to choose from for mains; chicken, barbecue burgers, hotdogs, fries, ribs, and all kinds of fresh fish. Being a mango fanatic, I had far too many mangos.
The island’s staff was so friendly and willing to help, they made sure everyone was having a good time – which I certainly was!
Another favorite moment was going down the waterslide called Pelican Plunge, which ends right in the sea. It was breathtaking and so much fun. It felt very safe, and since the slide is short and quick, we all got to go down several times without a long wait.
Disney Cruise Final Thoughts
When visiting Lookout Cay and Castaway Cay they both offer different and unique experiences. Lookout Cay is vibrant, vivid, and gives the impression that you are living on an island town similar to Moana. Lots of tasty food with a lot of energy.
Castaway Cay provided an adventurous experience similar to being on a deserted island surrounded by pirates. The sea was stunning, and the experience was really pleasant. Both were ideal for unwinding, exploring, and having a good time. Seeing the islands was undoubtedly one of my favourite aspects of my Disney Dream Cruise.
