McCann disappeared while on vacation with her family in Praia da Luz, Portugal in May of 2007. Her parents and siblings carry on her memory and hope that she will still be found years later.

In light of McCann’s 20th birthday passing recently, police hope searching a mile-long stretch of a reservoir in Portugal may lead to new discoveries in the case. A formal suspect, Christian Brueckner, 45, who was named in 2022, visited the reservoir during the time McCann disappeared so police are hoping to find clues relating to McCann’s disappearance.
Brueckner was reportedly living near the resort where the McCann family was on vacation. He supposedly also spent time in that area between 2000 and 2017. Brueckner is currently in jail in Germany for r*ping a 72-year-old woman back in 2005 in the same area where McCann disappeared, as mentioned here.
According to this TikTok by user @robandhaley, this new search is breaking news for the case as it could mean answers to questions people have been asking for years in regard to McCann’s disappearance.

This is reportedly not the first time this specific reservoir has been searched in relation to McCann’s disappearance, as mentioned in the above TikTok. Nothing was discovered the first time around, but the most recent search was in 2014 in some scrubland in Portugal.
The latest search was requested by German police since the main suspect visited this area around the time she disappeared. The search is expected to take place this week and- according to a German state prosecutor- a “growing amount of evidence has connected Brueckner to the case.”
