Miranda Derrick Responds to Netflix Documentary Allegations, Denies Cult Involvement

June 6, 2024 – Miranda Derrick, a central figure in the Netflix docuseries Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult, has publicly denied claims of being part of a cult. The documentary, which features interviews with her family and other former members of the Shekinah Church, suggests that Derrick’s distancing from her family is due to her involvement with the church and the 7M talent management company.

Miranda Derrick addressed the allegations through her Instagram stories, clarifying her position and expressing gratitude for the concern about her well-being. She revealed that she is a plaintiff in a defamation lawsuit, limiting her ability to discuss specific claims. However, she firmly stated, “I do not condone abuse in any way.”

Derrick attributed the rift with her family to her commitment to Christianity, which began in 2020. She recounted how her sister, Melanie Wilking, locked her out of their shared social media account, forcing her to create her own and pursue an independent career. Derrick described her family’s reaction to her newfound faith as “overbearing and chaotic.”

Miranda Derrick also explained her absence from her grandfather’s funeral, explaining that she felt threatened by her family, who deemed her regular church attendance as involvement in a cult. This fear led her to stay in Los Angeles, fearing her family might prevent her return if she attended the funeral.

Despite these tensions, Derrick maintained that she has stayed in contact with her family, including attending Melanie’s wedding but as seen in the documentary, it may be due to Shekinah Church recommendations and for social media appearances. Melanie confirmed their reconciliation but remained hopeful that Derrick would recognize what she perceives as the exploitation of their faith and familial bonds.
