Priyanka Chopra had some words to say about gender parity and equal pay! During an interview to promote her new show, ‘Citadel’, she shared her story of how this is the first time she gets paid the same as her male co-actors. We break down why it’s an important conversation to have.

Priyanka Chopra Entertainment Industry

Priyanka Chopra’s revelation about the inequality and wage gap among female and male entertainers coincidentally happened just in the same week International Women’s Day was celebrated. According to the Economic Times of India, Chopra admitted that she was “still paid much less” than her male co-stars throughout her acting career despite putting in “the same amount of effort, time, and investment.” Additionally, she acknowledged that women face significant obstacles to breaking the glass ceiling and thus she feels it is necessary to have women working at the top positions in all facets of the entertainment industry, both on and behind the screen.

As an international star, Priyanka Chopra has been working with Hollywood and Bollywood alike for more than 20 years. Her comment about gender parity highlights a pervasive issue only a few female celebrities are brave enough to speak up on.

As noted by Indie Wire, Chopra also admitted that she believed the problem is caused by a lack of female decision-makers in Hollywood. Furthermore, she also said she had to do a lot of stunts all by herself while male actors on set are given many body doubles. Chopra acknowledged that there needs to be more “equality of opportunity” between female and male celebrities.
