Singer beats Stage 2 prostate cancer, only for it to resurface—but he’s armed with treatment and advocacy.
The Diagnosis Re-emerges
September 5, 2025: Nearly a year after undergoing a radical prostatectomy—where his prostate was successfully removed with clear margins—Montell Jordan revealed that subsequent scans detected cancer recurrence in his lymph nodes and in the area where his prostate once resided. Initially diagnosed as Stage 1 after a routine PSA screening in early 2024, the cancer was later upgraded to Stage 2 due to its aggressive nature. Now, Jordan will undergo targeted radiation and hormone-blocking therapy to halt its return.
Early Detection as a Lifeline
Jordan credited his long-standing commitment to regular screenings for catching the disease early, especially as a Black man—an often higher-risk group when it comes to prostate cancer. He emphasized that early detection gave him the option to treat effectively and preserve quality of life.
Honesty as Advocacy
Speaking openly on national television, Jordan acknowledged the stigma surrounding men’s health—particularly when linked to manhood—and asserted that it’s “OK to cry” or express frustration. But doing nothing, he insists, is not an option. He’s partnering with the nonprofit ZERO Prostate Cancer and will appear in an upcoming documentary titled Sustain to offer others a real, compassionate blueprint for navigating this journey.
A Fight with a Purpose
Though this next round of treatment—radiation over seven weeks plus hormone therapy—will bring an interruption to daily life, Jordan remains optimistic. He views it as a necessary step to ensure he lives longer and better. His transparent approach seeks both to heal himself and to inspire and equip others to take control of their health.
