I recently had the chance to test out a new stick from The Hockey Stick Man called the Pro Blackout, and I’ve got to say—I was seriously impressed. They sent it over for me to try, and after a few skates, I was really excited to share my thoughts.

First Impressions: Lightweight & Balanced Feel

Right off the hop, the first thing I noticed was the feel. This stick is ultra-lightweight (around 400 grams), and the balance is spot-on. It’s made with 100% carbon fiber and uses true one-piece construction, which gives it a clean, responsive feel when handling the puck or taking shots.

Grip & Finish: Just the Right Amount

The soft-touch grip is another nice feature— not too tacky, just enough to feel secure without being locked in.

Performance on the Ice: Quick Releases & Snappy Passes

It features a low kick point, which I found perfect for quick releases and snap shots. I’m more of a playmaker, and the pop off this stick made it easy to fire off accurate passes or quick shots without needing a big wind-up.

Extended Length: Great for Taller Players

Another bonus—if you’re a taller player or just prefer a longer stick—the 85 and 95 flex models come extended with 64″ shafts (69″ total height), so I didn’t need a plug, which was a huge plus.

Curve Options: Matched to Pro Patterns

The curve options are really dialed-in too. They’ve matched them up with a lot of popular pro patterns, so it’s easy to find something familiar. Here’s a breakdown of what’s available for anyone looking to match their current setup:

  • Blade 1: P92 (Matthews), P29 (Crosby), W03
  • Blade 2: P88 (Kane), P80 (Ovi), W88
  • Blade 3: PM9 (Stamkos), P14 (Duchene), W01
  • Blade 4: P91A (Staal), P15 (Jones), W05
  • Blade 6: P28 (Eichel/McDavid), W28
  • Blade 7: P02 (Getzlaf)
  • Blade 9: P14 (Toews)
  • Blade 12: P90TM (Tavares)
  • P77: Old Coffey pattern

Stick height and flex options:

  • 70 / 75 Flex = 60″ shaft (65″ total height)
  • 85 / 95 Flex = 64″ shaft (69″ total height)

All models come with the soft-touch grip finish I mentioned earlier.

Exclusive to Hockey Stick Man

Pro Blackout Hockey Stick Left - P92 - Blade 1-85 Flex, Hockey Sticks - Amazon Canada

One thing to keep in mind: these are Pro Blackout exclusives, so you won’t find them elsewhere. Because the pricing is already super competitive, most discount codes don’t apply—but honestly, at this price point, the performance you’re getting is already a steal.

Final Thoughts: High-End Performance Without the $300 Price Tag

If you’re looking for a pro-level feel without spending $300+, this stick might surprise you. The Pro Blackout Extra Lite is priced at $159.99, and the Pro Blackout is $139.99. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first got it, but after a few games and practices, I can confidently say it holds its own against the big-name brands.
