With all of the stress we are experiencing from our current lockdown, it’s easy to forget the importance of self-care — more specifically, skincare. However, when the pandemic is over and it’s time to unmask, you’ll want your skin to look better than ever! You should avoid these 5 skincare mistakes during this pandemic to obtain glowing skin.

Mistake #1: Neglecting to Wash Your Face

If you’re staying home all day, you may think you don’t need to wash your face every morning and night. This isn’t true — your face still accumulates oil and dirt from sweat and indoor pollutants. Washing your face ensures that you remove these harmful substances from your face, preventing acne and premature ageing.

Mistake #2: Not Washing Your Mask After Every Time You Use It

Have you heard of “Mascne”? Hopefully, you haven’t… It means acne caused by your face mask. If you want to avoid this, you must wash your face mask after every time you use it! Each time you wear your face mask, it can become contaminated with bacteria and viruses. Washing it not only protects your face from acne but also protects you from the COVID-19 virus. If you wear disposable masks, make sure to get a new one every time you use it!

Mistake #3: Not Wearing SPF

If you know enough about skincare, you would know that it is important to wear sunscreen to protect your skin from the harsh sun rays, which cause premature ageing and sometimes even skin cancer! What you may not know, is that you should wear sunscreen year-round, outdoors and indoors. Even if you’re working from home, UVA rays still penetrate through your windows, so you should be wearing sunscreen every day!

Mistake #4: DIY Skincare

Everyone knows that boredom inspires creativity, and spending too much time at home inspires boredom! Accordingly, it’s no surprise that you may try getting extra ‘creative’ with your skincare during this pandemic. However, it’s important to be careful with DIY skincare, as you can irritate or even damage your skin with the ingredients you use in DIY skincare recipes. Some examples of ingredients you should NEVER put on your face include lemon juice, baking soda and toothpaste.

Mistake #5: Overusing Skincare Products

If you’re not neglecting your skincare routine, that’s great! However, there is a chance you are giving your skin a little too much attention. Overusing skin care products or using too many products at once, can irritate your skin! It is also important to note that certain skincare ingredients should not be used together (like benzoyl peroxide and retinol).

If you follow these tips, you’re sure to come out of the pandemic with gorgeous skin!
