From patterned tights to bright cobalt blue winter shoes, here’s how you can add a pop of colour to your winter wardrobe.

How to add a pop of colour to your winter wardrobe

In wintertime, it’s easy to fall into a pile of neutral-coloured wardrobe. Something about the drabness of the weather just makes us a victim of monochromatic outfits. Not that monochromatic outfits are bad, they’re cool actually but don’t you wish to have something more lively in your outfit? Wearing winter whites is cool too and makes for an instant chic moment, but what if you want something more? More colourful and fun, perhaps? Well, look no further, I’ll show you how!

Pop of Colour in Accessories

The easiest way to add a pop of colour to your winter wardrobe is by using the subtleties of your accessories. The good thing about winter dressing is the fact that there are so many articles of clothing needed to be worn– especially if you live in the drastic winter climate of Canada! So, more articles of clothing equal more opportunity to use it to your own advantage. Adding a pop of colour through accessories can be in the form of colourful tights, crocheted balaclava, beanies, scarves, and shoes. Tights and balaclava are having a moment right now so this is the perfect time to dabble on the trend. For inspiration, look into Versace’s Fall 2021 RTW collection or Balenciaga’s mesh tights, or Maison Soksi patterned tights. As for balaclava, this one from Indigo is great due to its colour-blocking design.

It’s also practical to use shoes as the pop of colour in your winter outfit. Luckily, winter shoes are no longer limited to the customary black boots. These Ambush x Converse winter boots come in bold cobalt blue. Wear this and your all-black outfit will no longer look boring. How about these metallic red Pajar boots? It’s waterproof and can withstand -30 degree weather. Or perhaps you’d like these pink insulated sherpa boots by Hunter that are perfect for those rainy winter days.

Go Out There with a Bold Outerwear

If the subtleties of colourful accessories aren’t enough to liven up your winter dressing blues, why not go out with bold outerwear? As the ancient saying goes: go big or go home. When it comes to style, outerwear nowadays is considered a staple piece rather than an add-on to your outfit. The beauty of it though is that it’s so easy to find striking winter jackets nowadays! For example, Aritzia now has plenty of iterations of its now-iconic Super Puff jackets. From matte to high gloss finishes, the jacket can act like an outfit in itself. The colour range does not disappoint either. There’s lilac, army green, plum and bright red, plenty of colours to choose from!
