Directed and written by the filmmaker on the rise Mickey Reece, “Agnes” emerged as a festival darling over the last few months, premiering at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival to intrigued and delighted reviewers.

In “Agnes,” a nun’s disturbing behaviour at a remote convent sparks rumours of demonic possession. When a priest-in-waiting and his disillusioned mentor are sent to investigate, their methods backfire, leaving a wake of terror and trauma.  Following Tribeca, “Agnes” was acquired by Magnolia Pictures and will debut in movie theatres nationwide and will stream on-demand TODAY.

Aside from starring in the film, Molly also holds the title of Executive Producer, bringing the project to life through her production company QWGmire.  Launched in 2019 alongside partners Elan Gale and Matthew Welty, QWGmire focuses on genre films.

Molly may be best known for starring as Alexis Castle from 2009-2016 on ABC’s award-winning, drama series “Castle” opposite Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic.  In film, Molly most recently appeared in Warner Bros’ “Doctor Sleep”, opposite Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson.

How was filming “Agnes” different from any other project you have done?

Man, in every way!! It was my first-time executive producing a film and starring in it! So, I was on set first thing in the morning with the crew to help set up for the day, shooting my scenes, then staying for the remainder of the day to help to film continue as smoothly as possible.

I am so proud to have worked with our spectacular Oklahoma crew, I learned a lot from them.

What was it like to produce and star at the same time in “Agnes”?

It was exciting and exhausting at the same time!! Thankfully my two incredible partners at QWGmire, Elan Gale and Matthew Welty helped shoulder a lot of the weight of producing when I needed to focus on the heavier acting work that playing Mary required.

How has owning your own production company changed your perspective on acting and film?

This is a great question. Producing has been a journey for me and now that I have the right partners, I’m seeing how rewarding the film industry can be. We throw ourselves fully into our projects. My dream is that when audiences sit down to watch a QWGmire film they know that we all completely believe in the movie we’ve made.

What is a common theme or factor that you look for in movies you want to work on?

I love characters who face insurmountable odds. The entire time I’m reading a script I want to be asking myself, “How are they going to overcome this?!”

What has been your favourite place to film at?

When I was sixteen I got to make a tv movie for Disney, Avalon High, and we shot in New Zealand. It was the adventure of a lifetime. From bungee jumping off the Auckland Bridge to chasing sheep on Waiheke Island, I made memories there that will be with me forever. Filming the movie was so much fun too!
