Bella Hadid and Adidas consumers are upset after the brand’s recent campaign featuring Hadid. The German-based sports brand is reviving one of its older shoe designs, the Adidas SL72, which was first released for the 1972 Olympic games in Munich, Germany. However, the shoe’s debut was overshadowed by a tragic event around the same time.
During the games, a Palestinian group called Black September broke into the Olympic Village. Their goal was to demand the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli and German prisons. Unfortunately, the protest wasn’t peaceful. A gunfight broke out, resulting in the death of 11 Israeli athletes. The current-day controversy connects because of Hadid‘s support of Palestine. The Israeli government went to X to criticize Adidas’ choice to pick Hadid for the campaign. Hadid, as well as her fans, also criticized the brand, agreeing the choice was wrong and should have been reviewed before the campaign’s initial release.
Bella Hadid Politics
Adidas pulled the ads earlier this week and released a statement saying, “We are conscious that connections have been made to tragic historical events — though these are completely unintentional — and we apologize for any upset or distress caused.”.
Hadid is also making sure she gets her fair dues from the company after the incident. TMZ reported the model has already hired legal counsel to sue the brand for their lack of accountability. As far as the media knows, Hadid is still under contract with Adidas following the incident. However, both the brand and Hadid removed photos of the campaign from their social media in the meantime.
