The R&B star Chris Brown denies assault causing actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon after entering a not-guilty plea in UK court.
Arrest and Charges
July 11, 2025: Chris Brown, 36, appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London and entered not guilty pleas to two new charges: assault causing actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon—a bottle—at a nightclub in Mayfair. These follow a previous denial of a more serious charge of attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm. His co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded not guilty.
Alleged Incident in Mayfair Club
Prosecutors allege Brown attacked music producer Abraham Diaw at Tape nightclub in February 2023. CCTV footage shows him striking Diaw multiple times with a bottle, followed by punches and kicks. The incident was described by authorities as unprovoked.
Court Details & Bail Conditions
Approximately 20 supporters attended the hearing, and Brown was seen wearing a light brown suit. He was released on bail in May after posting a £5 million security bond, allowing him to continue his Breezy Bowl XX world tour on condition of surrendering his passport when not traveling.
Trial Set for 2026
A trial is scheduled to begin October 26, 2026, and is expected to last five to seven days. Pleas for the additional charges have been delayed until July 11, giving both sides time to prepare. Brown’s legal team may argue self-defense, though prosecutors say no evidence supports that claim.
Chris Brown has formally denied all charges in connection with the London nightclub assault. As legal proceedings gear up for trial, the allegations raise serious questions about violence, accountability, and celebrity conduct under scrutiny.
