Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick Emotional Onscreen Reunion: Real, Raw, and 20 Years in the Making
June 4, 2025: Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are reuniting on screen for the first time in two decades in the upcoming film The Best You Can, premiering June 7 at the Tribeca Film Festival. Directed by Michael J. Weithorn, the film explores the evolving relationship between two strangers, Stan and Cynthia, who connect after a chance encounter.
A Unique Approach to On-Screen Chemistry
To authentically portray the development of their characters’ relationship, director Michael J. Weithorn instructed Bacon and Sedgwick to prepare separately and avoid rehearsing together. This method aimed to capture the genuine progression of strangers becoming close. Sedgwick even wore a wig to further distance their natural chemistry, ensuring their on-screen interactions felt fresh and unacquainted.
Complex Emotional Themes
In The Best You Can, Bacon plays Stan, a home security guard, while Sedgwick portrays Cynthia, a doctor dealing with her husband’s (played by Judd Hirsch) battle with dementia. Their characters’ connection deepens through text messages and shared experiences, reflecting on themes of loneliness, connection, and personal growth.
A Family Affair: Upcoming Projects
Following this project, Bacon and Sedgwick are set to collaborate again, along with their children Travis and Sosie, in a horror-comedy titled Family Movie. The film, which they will co-direct, centers around a family of filmmakers who encounter a real-life horror scenario during their low-budget slasher production.
