Shelley Duvall died peacefully in her sleep at her residence in Blanco, Texas, as confirmed by her long-time partner Dan Gilroy. The cause of death was complications arising from diabetes, stated her friend and publicist Gary Springer.

Duvall’s journey into acting began unexpectedly when she was discovered by Altman’s crew members at a party in Houston in 1970, leading to her debut in Brewster McCloud. Her collaboration with Altman flourished, spanning memorable roles in McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Nashville, 3 Women, and Popeye, where she portrayed Olive Oyl opposite Robin Williams.
