Sunrise on The Reaping is the fifth instalment and second prequel in The Hunger Games book series. Specifically, the book follows a young Haymitch before the events of the original trilogy. In the novel, Haymitch experiences the games for the first time while also being tempted into the idea of revolution.

According to Indie Wire, the film will reportedly be released in theaters on November 20, 2026. In addition, Francis Lawrence is returning as director, while Billy Ray is handling the script. Moreover, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will produce, and Cameron MacConomy will be an executive producer.

New Hunger Games Cast

Recently, the cast for the film has been announced. Specifically, Australian actor Joseph Zada has been cast as Haymitch. Joseph has mostly been in Australian productions until this point. For example, he has been in Total Control (2024) and Invisible Boys (2025). However, he has now started to take on roles that will introduce him to a global audience.

Other notable cast members include Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, and Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee.
