As noted in the video, there have been colder than usual temperatures lately across the US, and because of this freezing weather, there have been interesting things witnessed in nature, as the TikTok video explains. Previously, it was “raining iguanas” now it is frozen alligators- allegedly.

“When there is a hard freeze, ice and lakes, and ponds get very thick and creatures such as alligators get caught under that very thick ice,” claims the TikToker.

Do alligators hibernate?

Allegedly, the alligators are okay under the ice because their bodies are designed for this situation. When hard freezes come, the alligators supposedly poke their noses through the ice and wait until the ice melts. They can do this because it is essentially a form of reptilian hibernation for them called brumation.

As the TikToker explains, while in brumation, the alligator takes what is described as a “power nap” under the ice and once the ice melts they come out seemingly “feeling refreshed.”
