It’s finally winter time which means dry skin season is upon us. Another season of dry, scaly, cracked skin but it does not have to be this way, you know? There are ways to combat the harsh cold weather and below, we listed some of the illuminating skincare secrets for you to try.

Illuminating Skincare Secrets For Harsh Weather

Lip Basting

Lip basting is a simple technique to hydrate chapped lips. This term was coined by a cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Shereene Idriss. Idriss claims that by simply applying a thick layer of ointment on the lips and letting it sit for 10 minutes, the mucus membranes of the skin will drink it in and will instantly hydrate the lips. It may seem odd at first, but the results are worth it. You can use ointments like Aquaphor or Vaseline.

Humidifiers Are The True Heros

Humidifiers are the true heroes during the wintertime. Need I say more? These saviour appliances are essential to keep a well-hydrated skin. During the colder months, the air in our spaces is dry and harsher for our skin. Humidifiers will help reintroduce moisture in the air and our skin will thank us for it. You can get a space-saving one like this or a small one for your desk, or even a portable one that you can carry everywhere.

New Shower Routines

During the wintertime, it may be best to switch up your shower routines. As much as we love a nice, scalding hot shower, the high temperatures are actually not good for your skin. It may seem soothing at first, but this sensation will not last for long. Hot water can even further dehydrate your skin, so try to take quick showers from now on. And if you have extremely dry and sensitive skin, you can apply body oil before stepping into the shower. The body oil supposedly acts as a primer that shields your skin from the water. And as always, apply body moisturizers immediately after stepping out of the shower.

Girl, Put Your Gloves (and Socks On)

Just like your new shower routine, you may also need to add a couple of things to your nighttime routine. This wintertime, before going to bed, it is best to apply thick creams to your hands and feet and immediately cover them up with gloves and socks. This will lock in the moisture and will guarantee you the softest skin in the morning.

Another fascinating tip for when you are partaking in any winter outdoor activities is to slather Vaseline on your hands and cover it with cotton gloves. The Vaseline will trap the sweat on your hands and it will act as a moisturizer to prevent dry, scaly hands. Sounds weird, I know, but dermatologists suggested it!
