Shawn Mendes opens up about canceling the world tour and his mental health.

In a recent interview for The Wall Street Journal, Shawn Mendes confessed it was ”very difficult” to cancel his last year’s world tour. The main reason for the decision that surprised his fans was the singer’s need to focus on his mental health. “I know you all have been waiting so long to see these shows, and it breaks my heart to tell you this but I promise I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal. I love you all and thank you all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey,” wrote the artist in an Instagram post last year.

Shawn Mendes Cancels Tour

Mendes confessed that his decision to cancel Wonder: The World Tour was a result of the time spent in therapy that helped him dig deeper into what he was experiencing emotionally. “The process was very difficult. A lot of doing therapy, a lot of trying to understand how I was feeling and what was making me feel that way. And then doing the work to help myself and heal,” he said.

The Grammy-nominated singer, 23, first chose to postpone the second half of his world tour. However, he later changed his decision and finally canceled the tour.

Shawn added that his mental health journey was ”eye-opening” to him. “I think the last year and a half has been the most eye-opening and growing and beautiful and just healing process of my life,” he told the outlet, also mentioned here.

Following the tour cancellation news and mental health work, the changes in Shawn’s life continued. In January 2023, the singer shaved his head and showed his new buzz cut in Los Angeles.
