As noted in the TikTok video, The Weeknd allegedly used some of Gomez’s experiences she shared with him in confidence while they were dating to develop The Idol. A clip of The Weeknd talking about The Idol during a panel shows him stating that Lily-Rose Depp’s character, Jocelyn, was inspired by things he personally witnessed or heard.

As well, fans are calling out The Weeknd for exploiting Gomez’s struggles with mental health. For example, the character Jocelyn has to cancel her tour, and when she makes. a comeback it’s with a more provocative image. Fans think that this is similar to when Gomez had to cancel her Revival tour back in 2016 and was worried about only being seen as a Disney star. There were also rumors of Gomez having substance abuse issues back then after entering rehab- even though these claims were denied by Gomez’s team.

What do you think- do you think scenes in The Idol were inspired by Gomez and her supposed experiences?
